Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have difficulty clearing my throat of phlegm. I was on lisinipril for high blood pressure and taken off of it as coughing was a side effect. I would not really call this coughing but an inability to clear my throat. I am now on Losartan 50mg and Amlodipine 5 mg. Are these drugs also noted for coughing side effects?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for the query. I understand your concern. Amlodipine 5 mg does not have side effect of cough. . .But Losartan is known to have cough as a side effect. In case the cough starts in 3 days from starting losartan & if there was no cough previously...the cough can be side effect of losartan. * In case you get such cough.. consult your treating physician for alternative & suitable medication for you ( probably beta blockers) Thanks.
