Do Antibiotics Cause Delayed Periods?

I started taking clyndamycin on 8/10 for a 10 day round for a tooth infection. I was supposed to start my period on 8/16 and I haven t yet and don t show any signs of it. I am always exactly 28 days. Am I late because of the antibiotic? And when I stop the antibiotic, will my period start right away or will it wait a couple weeks?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
Clidamycin does not affect the menstrual cycle and does not cause delayed period.
Following are the cause of the delayed period:
Pregnancy: if you had sexula intercourse in the unsafe period of cycle.
Excessive stress, hormonal imbalance, thyroid dysfunction, ovarian cyst/PCOS, endometriosis.
If period will delay by the 12-14 days then consult the gynecologist to rule out the above causes after proper investigations like
Urine pregnancy kit, Blood HCG, USG scan, ovarian follicle study and reproductive hormone analysis.
Progesterone pill will help in induction of period in absence of the pregnancy.
Avoid stress, take healthy diet, fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables, drink plenty of water.
Hope this may help you
