Do Antibiotics Taken For Fever Cause Brown Urination?
my 24 year old son went to the doctor yesterday with diarrhea and fever that had persisted since Friday night. he thought it might be food poisoning and due to family history of diverticulitis they put him on antibiotics. Today he is still the same - 101 temp diarrhea and now has brown urine. Can the brown urine be the antibiotics and/or dehydration?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Antibiotics may cause dark colored urine because the metabolic waste products are excreted through urine and it imparts dark color to urine. Generally it will resolve once the antibiotics are stopped. If dark color persist, get a urine routine done to confirm it is not blood. As of now drink plenty of water.
Thanks.
