Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is it normal to have a longer period after starting birth control? My period was already irregular and had been AWOL for what months when the doctor said instead of waiting for your period to come just start taking it and it ll fix itself. I got it after 65 days missing but now it s been 8 days and now sign of dwindling down. Should I have been taking the brown pills on the last line? Cause I just continued.
If you have not had a period for 2 months, it is normal that the next period is heavy due to the uterine inner layer being thicker.
If you take oral contraception you will need to take the brown pills, they have no hormones and during their use you have a chance to have a period. You have to take the brown pill or stop using any of the contraception pills for a week. If you don't stop using them or do not take the brown pills then you risk irregular or heavy bleeding in the next menstrual cycle.
If your bleeding is too much you might need to see a doctor to make sure you are not developing anemia and also rule out other causes of vaginal bleeding.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
