Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Do Blood Sugar Over 600 And Extremely High BP Warrant Hospitalization?
I was told my sister-in-law's blood sugar was over 600 and BP over 400 coupled with blurred vision and yet her doctor just gave her some insulin and insulin prescription and sent her home. Is this typical treatment? I thought numbers of that type would demand a hospital stay. What would be an appropriate treatment?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Yes blood sugar over 600 and extremely high BP does need hospitalization. Blood sugar level of 600 mg/dl & blood pressure of 400 mm Hg cannot be managed at home. It is extremely risky. Also blurred vision is a dangerous symptom in high blood sugar & high blood pressure. I would suggest you to rush to emergency room. It would be better for your sister-in-law to be managed & treated there. After that you could post a legal case over doctor who gave her some insulin and insulin prescription and sent her home.
Refer to emergency Hope this information helps
