Do Continuous Hiccups And Belching, Every Time After Eating, Indicate Heart Burn?

After eating I often experience hiccups and belching of stomach gases. Not painful but irritating as it does not stop for hours and most often lasts for days. Thought it was hiccups but drinking large amounts of water has not helped. Emergency room doctors could not detect any problems after view via upper and lower GI. Are these signs of heart burn?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The imaging would have looked for any structural causes. Since these tests were clear, this would indicate that no masses/lesions present.

Based on the symptoms mentioned, heart burn is a possible cause of your issues.

Treatment involves both lifestyle changes and medications.
Lifestyle changes: (1) use small frequent meals instead of large meals
(2)wait 2 hours after eating before laying down
(3)weight loss of any excess weight because it puts pressure on the diaphragm
(4)avoid spicy/acidic/fried foods
(5)avoid caffeine, mint, chocolate, tomato

Medications such as nexium, prilosec, prevacid, protonix, can be used. They can take 5 to 7 days, in some cases, for an effect so they need to be used consistently.

I hope this helps
