Do Contraceptive Pills Cause Dry Skin And Constipation?

I have all the symptoms of hypothyroid, but my TSH came back in the normal range. I m up to 2 naps a day, have 2 electric blankets on my bed & couch and my hair is getting thinner. For years I ve struggled with my weight, dry skin and constipation. Could it be my oral contraceptive?

Hi,

I understand you are concerned about some symptoms that look like hypothyroidism. I agree that your symptoms are very suspicious for hypothyroidism; in fact, they are so suspicious I would want to check your free T4 and T3 thyroid hormone levels to make sure those were normal.

Though this would be rare, if they were low, you may have a condition called central hypothyroidism. Oral contraceptives would not cause the symptoms you are having. I hope this helps and that you are able to find the cause of your symptoms soon. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
