Do Dehydration, Vomiting And Cramps In The Hands And Legs Need Medical Attention?

My husband has been having symptoms of dehydration frequently, but eats and plenty of water. Right now he is vomiting and has hand and leg cramps. He worked outside today but that s not unusual for him. Some days he gets red and blotchy. Sometimes he also has headaches. He only takes zantac for heartburn. Is this anything to be worries about?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
What medication your husband is taking would only control his gastritis problem. To overcome vomiting, it would be advisable to take Tablet.Domperidone.
However, his symptoms of dehydration and cramps in hands and legs needs to be attended to.
His intake of fluids does not alone help to overcome it, as electrolyte imbalance is not corrected.
Kindly ask home to take citrus fruit juices, tender coconut water and oral rehydration solution (ORS) regularly, which will help to restore electrolytes to normal along with correction of dehydration.
In any instance, he feels giddy or weak, you need to seek medical attention promptly as he could be having dehydration induced hypotension. Such cases needs to be managed by instituting IV fluids.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
