Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Do Doctors Prescribe Drugs That Mitigate The Withdrawal Symptoms?
My son is withdrawing from methamphetamine. I learned from the interenet that are at least three drugs that help with withrdrawal syptoms and which reduce the risk of drug relapse. He has not medical insurance so I would like to know if medical doctors will prescribe drugs that mitgate the withdrawal syptoms.
Buspirone (BuSpar), a nonbenzodiazepine anxiolytic with dopamine D3 and D4 receptor antagonist properties is under trial for methamphetamine related issues (withdrawal, etc).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Tushar Kanti Biswas,
