Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Do Fatigue, Stiff Neck And Shoulder Pain After Insect Bite Indicate West Nile Virus?
About 3 weeks ago, I got an insect bite on my left forearm (mosquito?) at dusk in Fresno. A few days later, I noticed general body aches and fatigue, and started taking OTC ibuprofen 200mg (with food). The ibuprofen helped, but still left pain in my left shoulder area and a stiff left neck. The pain has moved slowly from general shoulder to left collar bone to pectoral muscle to another muscle in the armpit. Now my whole left arm is red and swollen. The fatigue is lessening; I spent the last 3 weekends sleeping. is there a possibility of West Nile Virus?
The symptoms seem to be related to a insect bite. I recommend to use Benadryl to relieve the symptoms. I also suggest to use a steroid cream for local application such as Hydrocortisone cream.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
