Do Gallstones And Elevated Alkaline Phosphatase Levels Cause Abdominal Pain?

I recently had an emergency procedure to repair ulcers in my esophagus, stomach & small intestine. When I returned from the hospital I was feeling fine, then all of a sudden I started to get terrible abdominal pains & distention. Had a CT scan & nothing showed up. The pain has continued & I m unable to go to work, only thing that feels ok is to be lying down with a heating pad on. Had an ultrasound & they found a 15m gallstone that is floating around, not blocking any ducts. Now I have an elevated alkaline phosphatase level of 136 and I m being told that they don t think the pain is related to my gallstone. What are your thoughts? Will a nuclear HIDA scan assist with the diagnosis?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Presence of gall stones in the gall bladder and stones obstructing bile duct would cause pain in the abdomen. Due to this, there is elevation of enzyme alkaline phosphatase.
What investigation has been done is alright. You need to get treated for removal of gall stones by consulting Endoscopic Surgeon.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
