Do I Need To Get My Sperms Checked After Vasectomy?

I am a male who had a vasectomy 18 years ago. Married to the same woman for 26 years who is now aged 50.

No children since the vasectomy. I do not wish to have any more children.

Do I need to get a sperm recheck ? My wifes period is 2 weeks late and I am beginning to worry.

Thanks.

Bobby

Welcome to healthcaremagic,
Vasectomy if done correctly is a very effective contraceptive method. As you had undergone vasectomy 18 years ago and your wife did not get pregnant during this period, it indicates that vasectomy was successful. The chance of conceiving after vasectomy is very rare specially in your case.
I suggest that your wife should do urine pregnancy test and if it turns negative then she should consult a gynecologist and there are various other reasons why a women may have altered or delayed period.
Hope that answers you question.
Regards, Dr.Ismail
