Do Impaired Thoughts Need Psychiatric Treatment?

Hello and I hope to find some answers. We don t know who to contact for help. My daughter lives in SC and a long ago friend of my daughter renewed their friendship from California. She had not seen or heard from him in 20 years. He is a 52 yr old male and is very smart and has been working for years as a consultant in quality control in pharmacy related companies throughout the US. He transferred to Ga last fall and the job ended in January 2016. He asked my daughter if he could stay at her house until he got another consulting position in the next month. After a few days my daughter noticed that there was something wrong with him. He didn t remember much of the past of significiant. ex. Pres. Bush as presiden, Reagen dying or Princess in the horrific accident. Many other things as well. It is now much worse. He repeats every sentence said to him in a conversation. In the meantime she has asked him to move from her house because she cannot be responsible for him and thought it would be better for him to be by himself and perhaps could concentrate on what he has to do. He listens to music most of the time on his cell phone and mentions what a great song it is every time and we are very worried about him. His limited money from his 401K is almost gone and he has made some bad mistakes in hanging on to the little bit of money left. We were able to get his mother s phone number for an assisted living facility in NC and my daughter talked to he yesterday. The mother said he was autistic as a child but had responded very well, but it seems that now he has reverted back and said that he now seems worse that he had ever been. He has been through a lot of trauma in the past couple of years sometimes not working for months and now in the midst of a divorce from his wife. His money is very very short now because he has been sending over 5,000 a month of the 401k to his ex who is not working and an adopted girl now 16 yrs old. We want to help him and have to idea who to call. He has virtually no money left and soon he will have none at all. Please from what I have told you about his condition, where could we go. He is being turned down on every job applied for. His voice is monitone sound and doesn t show enough interest or ask the necessary questions to even get the position. Thank you and I am sorry for the long message, but since his mother mention about his being autistic as a child and treated very badly by her former husband (his father) and that somehow today seeing his strange behavior today that it is related to being autistic earlier in life. She also mentioned the trauma of the divorce and having to leave his daughter as being a major factor in his behavior. I don t know if there is an agency that could help. He will not have the money to go on his own to get medical help, and there must be someone for him to turn to. Thanks very much for your reply, Erma McGinnis
