Do Low T4 Levels Indicate A Tumor On The Pituitary Gland?
I just got back my blood test results from checking on my thyroid. I was told that my t4 was low but my tsh was normal meaning it was my pituitary gland not my thyroid that is causing problems. I am now scheduled for an MRI. I was wondering if these test results always mean that there is a tumor on the pituitary gland or if there could be another reason to possibly explain the test results. Thank you for any information !
That is called a feedback mechanism. Every hormone in our body has a feedback mechanism in other words pituitary produce. For example: the pituitary produces thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH).
It stimulates the thyroid gland to make active hormones to control the body metabolism, so that the thyroid produces T3 and T4 hormones according to the body's requirement.
If they are more then they tell the pituitary to decrease the TSH release and ultimately T3 and T4 will decrease. That's how they work.
In your case, T4 is low which means T4 level is unable to be produced as per your body's requirement and at such a level, it could stop TSH secretion. Therefore, there could be less TSH which is unable to produce enough T3 and T4.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
