Hi Terie,I can understand your concern. If you have had migraines in your younger days, there is a possibility of recurrence. And what you might have experienced could be an
Ocular Migraine, which is seen routinely in all practices.
Few questions about your blurred vision-
1. How long does is your vision blurred? Is it only Right eye?
2.How many times have you experienced the same?
3.Any pain/flashing lights noticed?
4.Do you have any dry eye/crusty lids when you wake up?(untreated Dry eye should be kept in mind for which OTC Lubricant drops like
Systane 3-4 times a day should help)
5.Do you wear contact lens/ever sleep with them?(over wearing the lens also causes blurred vision with head ache)
Ocular migraines are usually temporary, painless and lasts for 20-30 mins and relieves on its own without any medication.Few of my patients describe them as some kind of visual disturbance/flashes/black outs. Keep an eye on the flashes and blackouts though ,as if repetitive, you need a dilated examination at the office to rule out any retinal problems.
If your blurred vision is followed by
severe headache, then it should be considered as visual aura which needs to be treated by anti-migraine medications.
But don't worry,as these visual symptoms are temporary.Regular medications for your migraine will give you relief.Do not hesitate to see your ophthalmologist for an eye exam if you have persisting blurred vision, especially only in One eye, to rule out any refractive errors/retinal problems.Continue
Tylenol until then for temporary relief.
Hope this helps.Take care.
