Do Multiple Benign Cysts In Breasts Require Medical Attention?

I just had an ultrasound on my breasts and was told a I have multiple cysts in both of my breast but are benign. The doctor told me not to worry because it is common for certain women to have multiple cysts in their breast. Should I get a second opinion?

Hi.
I've gone through your query and I can understand your anxiety.

Breast cysts are mostly benign & can occur at any age (common around 40). As they are benign, there is no higher risk of breast cancer.

Unless it causes discomfort, it should not be touched & if it results in infection it should be drained immediately.

I would advice few lifestyle modifications like
- Wear well-fitted, supportive bra.
- If painful, take analgesics & hot compress

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
