Hi,

Although you have not mentioned the name of the new drug prescribed to you, I guess it is Xyrem. It contains sodium oxybate whcih is known to be highly effective for narcolepsy. It will improve your night time sleep, which is poor in those with narcolepsy. This in turn will reduce the daytime sleepiness. I feel your doctor must have had your best interests in heart, but still if you disagree with him, please make your fears clear to him and give him a chance to explain his reasons for considering this change in treatment.

Hope this is of help.

Best wishes.
