Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I take an oral contraceptive daily and have for over two years now. When having sex, my partner and I don t ever use any other form of contraceptives, and I have forgotten to take my prescription numerous times throughout the last two years. I am beginning to question my fertility because of that and my experiences prior to starting the pill and how even with 100% unprotected sees I never got pregnant.
Since you have been taking the drug for a longer duration, your hormone levels are always maintained at levels required to prevent ovulation even when you have missed pills for one or two days. After stopping the contraceptive pills, you will take time for your cycles to resume due to the hormonal changes. After 2 to 3 months, your cycles will resume to normal physiology and pregnancy rate will improve.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
