Do Pain At The Base Of Neck And Swollen Hands Indicate Pinched Nerve?

I have a very sharp, shocking brief pain at the base of my neck ever so often. Also, my hands are numb and feel swollen. I did a lot of yard work and painting recently as well as cleaning up urine from a raccoon who stained my deck pillars. Is this a pinched nerve or do I have a raccoon related disease?

Neurologist 's  Response
Hello!

I read your question on HCM and understand your concern.

In my opinion the symptoms you describe may be related to a disc displacement in your cervical column.

You should know that nerve roots can be compressed from a cervical disk, when they leave the spine and cause radicular pain and numbness in the hands.

The pain in your neck is another argument in favor of this diagnosis.

I recommend you to consult with a neurologist and perform routine blood tests and a cervical column x ray.

A cervical column CT scan would be necessary to examine better the anatomical structures that I mentioned before.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best wishes! Dr. Abaz Quka
