Do Partial Seizures Increase The Chance Of An Epilepsy Attack?
Hello, my mother has epilepsy and she has had three partial seizures (rubbing of hands, smacking of lips, confused speech) today. Every now and then she will have one here and there but never this close together in the same day! I am her daughter and I am very concerned. I have read the triggers but do you have any idea what could bring these on so close together? Thank you for your time...
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Sudden lip smacking movements, rubbing of hands, confused speech or any other symptom of partial seizure can progress to full blown seizure or epilepsy. Partial seizures can complicate to Partial seizures with secondary generalisation. So if she is having partial seizures and have history of epilepsy then there are increased chances of generalised seizures. Please take her to a doctor for evaluation and get her EEG done to ascertain seizure focus. Imaging investigation like CT or MRI will help to rule out any anatomical abnormality. Antiseizure drugs can effectively control the seizures and should be given to her.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
