Do Red Patches On The Tongue Warrant Immediate Medical Attention?
Hi, I recently had white rings on the side of my tongue with a red centre. These started while I was pregnant. Once I had given birth the patches seemed to of gone but I ve recently noticed they are now red patches. Should I be worried? I have an appointment but not for another 5 weeks
White rings on tongue with red centre can be due to causes like allergic reaction, inflammation, while it can also be due a condition known as Geographic tongue..
So my suggestion is to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a clinical examination can be done followed by a microscopic examination from the scrapings from the tongue for confirmation..
For now you should start applying Lidocaine gel over the patches if there is pain and along with it gargle with specialised mouthwash like Magic mouthwash.. You should also start taking a multivitamin tablet daily.. Avoid spicy and irritant foods and suck ice to reduce inflammation.. Maintain a good oral hygiene and gargle with warm saline after meals to avoid any food debris to accumulate that can cause infection..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
