Hello!
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.com
I read carefully your question and understand your concern.
I think you have food
poisoning as you already pointed out.
Food poisoning occurs when one ingests food or water that contains bacteria, parasites, viruses or toxins produced by these microorganisms. Most cases of food poisoning are due to common bacteria such as
Staphylococcus or
Escherichia coli (E. coli).
Most of the time, you will improve in a couple of days. The goal is to alleviate the symptoms and verify that your body has the proper amount of fluids.
Getting enough liquid and knowing what to eat will help you stay comfortable. You may need:
Manage diarrhea
Controlling
nausea and vomiting
Get enough rest
You can take oral rehydration mixes to replenish fluids and minerals lost through vomiting and diarrhea.
Oral rehydration powder can be purchased at a pharmacy. Be sure to mix the powder in drinking water.
You can make your own mixture by dissolving ½ teaspoon salt and ½ teaspoon (2.3 grams) of
sodium bicarbonate and 4 tablespoons (50 grams) of sugar in 4 ¼ cups (1 liter) of water.
If you have diarrhea or vomiting and can not take or conserve fluids, you may need to be given intravenously (IV). This may be more common in young children.
If you take diuretics, ask your provider if you need to stop taking them while you have diarrhea. Never stop taking or changing medicines without first talking to your provider.
For the most common causes of food poisoning, your provider will NOT prescribe antibiotics.
You can buy medicines at the pharmacy to help reduce diarrhea.
Do not use these medicines without talking to your provider if you have diarrhea with blood or
fever, or if the diarrhea is severe.
Kind regards,
Dr. Oscar Martinez.
