I woke up on tues am and had sharp pains in my left shoulder blade, very uncomfortable. Stiff neck all day and have gotten massages from hubby for knot in shoulder. Its friday and still a problem. Night seems to be worse but getting out of bed is horrible. Thinking pinched nerve? Hubby says i need to go to a chiropractor. Thoughts?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

There sounds possibility of acute muscle spasm, sprain or nerve compression at cervical or brachial plexus level most likely. You must seek medical attention with your primary care provider for primary evaluation before visiting chiropractor. Till that time:
- Local application of heating pad
- Analgesic spray or ointment containing menthol and diclofenac
- Medications as ibuprofen or tramadol hydrochloride after meals if no history of drug sensitivity

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
