Do Sudden Urges To Vomit While Asleep Require Medical Attention?
I was woken up in the middle of the night after sleeping on my side with a feeling i was about to throw up and got up and stopped it before it occurred. it was from my throat and I was sleeping with hand under neck. Felt it come up but stopped it. Drank water and went back to sleep. no problems in morning ?
* The vomiting while asleep indicates a grave level of acid reflux and must be addressed to the consultant physician for further care.
* The cause may be GERD or else.
* In my clinic, I do recommend
- upper GI endoscopy
- proton pump inhibitor as omeprazole
- gut prokinetic agents as itopride or else
- control of body weight, blood sugar, cholesterol.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
