Do Tingling And Discomfort In Left Arm Post Food Intake Suggest Heart Problem?

I often get tingling and discomfort in my left arm after eating my evening meal. Does this indicate a heart problem? I m a 49 year old woman, vegetarian, slim, very health conscious. I eat no sugar, no junk and plenty of good fats. I have a lot of carbs at night (rice or potatoes) because I easily lose weight. I don t exercise as much as I used to because I have M.E. / chronic fatigue. Most days I ll walk for 20-30mins. Some days housework is enough to make me tired. I do spend a lot of time sitting down. Last time I got my lipids checked (within the past 2 years) my cholesterol was around 4. My eating habits are a bit irregular. I have trouble with leaky gut and bloating, so I usually eat small meals and snacks in the daytime and a large meal at night (usually later than I should, 9 or 10pm). Thank you for your advice.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you have history of bloating, you are suggested not to eat food in a hurry and take food in time. For relieve take PPI's, one SOS when needed. Avoid fried, packaged food. Stay away from oily food, limit carbonated drinks, use lactose-free dairy products. Avoid stress and anxiety. Cut on addictions if any.

Yes, tingling or discomfort in the left arm sometimes is indicative of cardiac diseases. You are suggested to get a routine cardiac check up done to stay on the safer side (to rule out CAD). The tests will include CBC. Lipid function tests, Urinalysis, Echo, EKG, Stress tests, X-ray, etc. You will be treated according to the pathology detected and the severity of your symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
