Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Do Use Of Norvasc, Zoloft, Wellbutrin And Flexeril Cause Kidney Disease?
I'm a 60 y.o. woman who has a GFR 45, 50, & 52 over the last year. My BUN is 22.3 and creatinine is 1.18. I had a C/T with IV contrast last fall of my kidneys and was told all looked well. I'm concerned that the medications I am taking are contributing to chronic kidney dz. They are: Norvasc 10mg q d Lisinipril 20mg q d Zoloft 200mg q d Wellbutrin XL, 300mg q Flexeril, 10mg BID
I've had microscopic blood in my urine for 30 years and recently visible blood occasionally. I live in a small town in WY and have yet to be dx with chronic kidney dz. I'm getting very concerned as I don't want my kidneys to get worse. Do you have any ideas on what I can or should do? Thanks for your time.
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. You are a 60 years old female with reduced GFR, normal BUN and almost normal serum creatinine. All investigations like CT plain and with contrast have come normal. You are taking Amlodipine 10, Lisinopril 20, Sertraline 200, Bupropion 300 and Cyclebenzoprine 10 and over all these medicines are safe as far as renal function is considered. Cyclobenzoprine or Flexril is a muscle relaxant and the drug is known to cause renal toxicity and rhabdomyolysis in some individuals taking it so if you have been diagnosed with CKD then you should take this drug with caution.
Over all in renal disease doses of all the drugs you have mentioned should be used with caution. Visit a good kidney doctor for opinion on persistent blood in your urine and to get diagnosis of CKD if any.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
