Hello,
Varicose ulcers are recurrent and there is a possibility of appearance of ulcer exactly at the previous ulcer site. It's not called spreading but it's just recurrence. An open ulcer may persist for weeks to many years, and it tends to recur. Larger ulcer size and longer duration of the ulcer usually signify a worse prognosis.
The following are the treatment options for varicose ulcer. Leg elevation reduces edema and should be used for 30-minute sessions, 3 or 4 times a day. Compression therapy (inelastic, elastic) is the standard of care and is associated with a decreased rate of ulcer recurrence.
Pentoxifylline (400 mg 3 times daily) or
aspirin (300 mg daily) is effective when used with compression therapy. If the ulcer base has pus, it means wound is infected. So antibiotics are to be used orally. Topical antiseptic can be used.
The following are treatment options for
varicose veins.
Sclerotherapy is the most widely used medical procedure for varicose veins apart from laser and intense-pulsed-
light therapy, radiofrequency (RF) or
laser ablation and
ambulatory phlebectomy. You can also go for surgical approach in refractory cases.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
