Do Weight Loss And Exercising Help To Control Sugar Levels?
Hello, I was diagnosed with Diabetes yesterday, my AC1 came back 7.1. My Doctor prescribed me Metformin. But I am going to lose weight and exercise. I do not want to take this medicine. I know that I am going to lose weight and I do not want to have to be on medicine the rest of my life. If I lose weight and keep exercising, will this be o.k. ?
Thanks for asking at Healthcare Magic. I read your question and I understand your concern. life style modifications like excersize and weight loss alone are helpful only in impaired glucose tolerance i.e when fasting blood sugar is in the range of 110-126 or random blood sugar is in the range of 150-200 mg/dl on two occasions atleast 4 hours apart. In confirmed diabetes life style modifications only help as adjunct. I would suggest you to have Fasting blood sugar and random blood sugar level (atleast two readings) if they were in impaired glucose tolerance state then medications are not required. Excersise and losing weight will be sufficient. Hope it helps best. Don't forget to rate this answer. Take your best care. Regards Dr Ejaz
