Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Do Weight Loss Supplements Cause Elevation In The Liver Enzymes Levels?
Recently I started medifast diet program, taking there supplements, plus my own fiber, ending up with severe stomach pain, dr did liver panel and alt came back slightly elevated, I m not much of a drinker, only on weekends will I have a beer or 2 or wine, could these supplements have caused this elevation?
An “all-natural” herbal product might sound like it’s good for your health, but some common ones, like green tea extract and comfrey tea, can cause injury to your liver — the organ that breaks down medications.
And whether your liver is doing well or you have a disease like fatty liver or hepatitis C, you’ll want to keep your liver in the best shape possible.
So we don't know correct cause it may be due to alcohol or Viral hepatitis.
So please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
