HI MY ELDERLY FATHER TAKES 2MG OF ABILIFY EACH EVENING. HE RECENTLY WENT THROUGH TERRIBLE PHYSICAL PROBLEM AND HAS SLIPPED BACK INTO DEEP DEPRESSION. HE TRIED TAKING 5 MG BUT ENDED UP VERY DIZZY. IS THIS NORMAL? SHOULD HE KEEP TRYING TO TAKE THE 5 MG OR IS THERE A LESS DOSE THAN 5 BUT MORE THAN 2?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Abilify 2mg is a medicine used to treat mood disorders such as depression in combination with other drugs. Dizziness is very common side effect when you increase the dosage. The tablets are 2 mg, 5 mg or 10 mg. He can try to use 1 and 1/2 tab from 2 mg tablets at bed time. He has to increase the dose gradually. The best thing to do is to consult your father's psychiatrist because he might need to add another antidepressant.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
