Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Amoxicillin Clavulanate Cause Itchy Rashes On The Body?
I just finished my ten day supply of amox clav yesterday and I woke up today with what I thought were misquito bites. now I have a itchy rash on my body...pretty severe and my face. I have redness and welts. Could that be a side effect from the antibiotic?
Severe itchy rashes and hives on body can be most probably due to delayed allergic reaction with antibiotic Amox-Clav..
However it can also be due to other common allergens like certain soaps, detergents, leather, latex, insect bites, foods etc..
I would suggest you to consult an Emergency room and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation should be done..
Allergic tests like Patch test, RAST test, food challenge test etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
The Physician can advise to oral anti allergics as well as injectable steroids for relief..
As of now you can take anti-allergics like Levocetrizine, Allegra to control the itching and swelling.. Do cool compresses.. Application of calamine lotion can help in soothing the skin..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
