Does Amoxicillin Cause Anaphylaxis?

I ve had two knee replacements and have taken amoxicillin for years prior to any dental work. I m now hearing that the risk for Anaphylactic Shock from Amoxicillin is greater than is the rick of infection of not taking it especially when one has good dental hygiene. Your thoughts?

Hi,

Yes, there is a possibility of anaphylaxis with Amoxicillin, however, that's very rare. And it is by no means more then controlling infections. Infections are common and we very commonly use this drug but have rarely heard of any serious infection. Especially with oral the chance is negligible but if used intravenous we observe initially (test dose) just to be sure.

If you have used already then it's extremely unlikely to be causing anything serious. However, it should be used cautiously.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
