Does Amoxicillin Help Treating Proteus Mirabilis Bacteria?

Hi, my doctor put me on amoxocillicin 250 mg three times daily for 10 days. Then after I finish meds I wait 1 week retest my urine to see if my infection has cleared. My question what kind of bacteria does it kill in UIT s? Protous Meribella bacteria was found in my sisters cultures this passed fall. We use the same bathroom could we pass this to each other? I have had other UTI s since Feb 2015. Does Protous Meribella need a special test to dect it....I know it likes to hide in urinary tract.

Hi thanks for asking question.

Amoxycillin is beta lactum antibiotic that is effective against many gram positive and gram negative bacteria causing urinary tract infection.
Usually it is taken with clavulinic acid for its best action.

Proteus is a part of our intestine flora.contaminated catheters usually spreading it.although it cannot be said that you acquire it from your sister by using bathroom.but contaminated secretions can spread it.
Anyway for confirming is infection urine or blood can be used for culture study.

Cefixime is also effective drug for it.
