Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking Levoflaxacin 750 mgs there is a warning not to take this within 2 hours of taking any magnesium or aluminum containing antacid. I am also taking sucralfate 1 gram. I normally take that about 5pm then at 7pm take my levofloxacin but today I forgot to take it at the 5pm time. Can you verify that this antacid does not contain magnesium or aluminum. My email address
Sucralfate is not an antacid, it does not contain any magnesium or aluminum hydroxide for neutralizing the acid. But in reality sucralfate makes a protective layer over the ulcer that protect the ulcer from acid that produce in stomach. This mechanism results in healing of ulcer with in next few weeks. So you can take your medicine without any worry.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Yakub Ali, Internal Medicine Specialist
