Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Yes My fiancée tried protandim several years ago and got severe diarrhea so bad that he ended up in the hospital severly dehydrated. Today we just tried a good quality ashwagandha and within about 4 hrs he again is having severe diarrhea. I noticed that the Protandim had ashwagandha in it. Could this have caused it?
I had gone through your history and understood your true concerns. I can understand your anxiety.
Protandim is a good dietary supplement. Protandim can indirectly increase antioxidant activity (removal of harmful particles). It is a good supplement with minimum side effects in most of the people. But a very few people will get allergic reactions by use of protandim. Mostly allergic reactions include diarrhoea and vomiting. Sometimes it may cause rashes on hands and feet. Generally this happens when it is taken for more than 2 months.
Ashwagandha is also good dietary supplement. But if taken in large amount, it may cause diarrhoea. So coming to conclusion, in my opinion the cause of diarrhoea is most probably due to protandim and ashwagandha combination which is allergic to your fiancee.
Try to lesser the dosage and time period of use of protandim. Also take oral solutions which will correct any dehydration. Hope your fiancee recover soon.
