Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was diagnosed with strept throat last week and received a steroid injection to help with the inflammation in my throat. I was also placed on Augmentin. Due to what is now severe insomnia, I stopped the Augmentin midway. How long before the steroid is out of my system and is it possible that the steroid, the Augmentin or both are causing my insomnia? Thank you.
But they cause the above mentioned effects on chronic use not just one dose. As it has been 1 week since you had your steroid injection, it would have been out of your body by now. Augmentin can cause insomnia in very low percentage of population taking the drug. But it is an antibiotic so should be used full course as prescribed. Insomnia can be treated with:
1) Tab. Zolpidem 10mg at bedtime once daily. It helps in initiation of sleep 2) Avoid watching tv or mobile at least 2 hour before sleep 3) Environmental factors like quiet, dark room help in sleep 4) Drinking warm milk before sleep also helps some people
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
