Does Augmentin Cause Swollen Lips And Shooting Pain Around Eye And Ear?

HI I AM BEING TREATED FOR SUSPECTED SINUSITIS WITH WEEKS DOSAGE OF AUGMENTUM. aFTER TAKINGTHE FIRST DOSE IN THE EVENING I FOUND I HAD A SWOLLEN TOP LIP THE NEXT MORNING ( I DO SUFFER FOR SENSITIVITY TO ASPRIN & GET ANGIODERMA & URTICIA ( SPELLING NOT RIGHT)) aFTER THE NEXT 2 DOSES AT BEAKFAST & MID DAY MEAL I FOUND BY THE AFTERNOON WHAT HAD BEEN A DULL ACHE AROUND MY LEFT EYE HAD DEVELOPED INTO STABBING SHOOTING PAINS FROM TIME TO TIME BESIDE NY LEFT EYE &LEFT EAR. I AM WONDERING IF THIS MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THE AUGMENTUM AS IT WASN T THERE BEFORE tHANKS GAY

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms swollen lip after taking Augmentin is due to Allergic Angioedema caused by augmentin.
The pain in area between left eye and left ear is also due to allergic reaction.
Nothing to worry, stop taking Augmentin and consult your treating physician immediately and he can advise you take anti-allergic medication like Cetrizine or fexofenadine [ allegra] and anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen [ only if there is no allergic reaction].

You can also consult an allergist who can advise you to get an allergic testing done to rule out which antibiotics are safer for you.

As of now for sinusitis do steam inhalations, saline nasal sprays and use a humidifier in your room for relief..
