Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I took augmentin after a dog bite 2 days into taking it I had lower back pain at night 7 hrs after taking it. It su sided after a few days at the same time I had severe pain and pulsating on the right side of my neck. The pain on the right side of my neck still comes and goes. I finished the augmentin . About a week later a different doctor wanted me to take another 10 days of it as a precaution. On the 3rd day my left calf was burning and some of my veins were swollen and the night before I had another severe back ache. I called the doctors office and they said there was no infection. And the symptoms I was having were not related to augmentin but I could stop taking it. I still have problems with my veins in left calf. The bite was on the right ankle . It occurred 2 months ago. Could my symptoms have been from augmentin?
Let me start with your main question. Augmentin is not likely to cause these symptoms. I can't explain your symptoms without clinical examination but swollen veins unilaterally are suspicious for vein thrombosis or dysfunction.
An ultrasound scan of the leg veins may reveal more information (triplex). I can't see any connection of the bite with the rest of the symptoms either and I don't have enough information to suggest alternative diagnoses. If the symptoms still persist then a visit in person to your doctor is recommended.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
