Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I discovered I had low T this past July confirmed it via two different blood profiles one via Quest labs and other from the Low T Center started weekly TRT I notice the past two weeks my blood pressure has spiked to 145/90 and sometimes higher. For the past eight years I ve been taking blood pressure medication once a day currently on Benicar 20mg. Typically with the Benicar my BP was running 126/84 daily taken in the Am and afternoons. Has something with the TRT effected my BP and if so what is it I can not find anything online where TRT and Benicar conflict with one another?
Hi Mr Xxxx ! I have gone through your question and I understand your concern .
I would say that testosterone (TRT ) has a fluid retention effect and in this case , may cause high blood pressure when it's in a high dosage .This drug has the opposite effect of what Benicar do .They interact in each other effects on the body .
If I were your treating doctor I would check the testosterone level and if it's higher than normal would consider to low the dosage of TRT .Also an ECG . If the level is normal I would consider to use Benicar 20mg twice a day or Benicar HCT ( olmesartan -hydrochlorthyazide )20mg once a day and monitor the blood pressure until gets back to normal. Only your treating doctor can do the changes , ask an appointment with him . Wish these help . If you have any other questions please feel free to ask me.
