Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello doctor, my son is 13 months old and is been suffering from atopic dermatitis since he is 3 months old. Later on he developed chest congestion n was admitted in hospital under ICU. I was told mike steroid given. will it cause side effects later? Nebulisation also didn t help much so doctor has prescribed budecort for at least 3months. I notice this voice has become husky. Is it the side effect of budecort? I also heard it causes vision problem n uneven fat distribution in the body. Is it true?
Short courses of oral steroids do not usually produce any long term effects. Problems can possibly occur if they are used for an extended period.
Inhaled steroids are not absorbed significantly into the circulation so the inhaled med that he is using is not likely to have long term negative consequences.
There are consequences or long term changes/problems that can occur in the lungs if reactivity is not adequately controlled so the inhaler can help with this.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
