Yes, please - I have a 56 son who has been prescribed so many medication for his depression (manic) - is a struggling crack-addiction/alcoholic on top of it. He is taken Lithium to start, but since he is taken bupropion now - he is very aggitated to point of mean acting - can since become a problem to continue bupropion. He is scheduled to receive Electroc shocktreatment end of this month thrrough the VA clinic. YYYY@YYYY
Hi & Welcome. Taken together, these medications can cause harmful effects.
Bupropion (an antidepressant) can cause agitation, tremors and seizures while taking it with Lithium (which can also cause seizures when used alone). This harmful interaction is more likely since he is struggling with substance abuse since these adverse neuro-psychiatric events are increased while taking Bupropion.
Consult his doctor to prescribe alternatives that do not interact with Lithium, or he may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by his doctor to safely use both medications.
He should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications.
Hope to have answered your query.
