Does Canesten Cause Burning Sensation And Itching In The Vagina?

Hi I have thrush and have been using canesten - the pessary last night - and the cream since yesterday. However, now i feel like my thrush has gotten worse. My vulva is burning and seems more itchy. Is this a normal side effect? Should I keep using it?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Clotrimazole (Canesten) is an anti fungal medication and is used to treat vaginal yeast infections.
Topical side effects commonly experienced include redness and burning sensation.
If you experience any of these side effects namely skin rash, hives, blistering, burning, itching, peeling, redness, stinging, swelling, or other sign of skin irritation, and these effects are severe and become bothersome, you need to consult your doctor promptly.
Hope the information provided helps.

All the best.
Regards,
Dr.Ashakiran.S.
