Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has probable normal pressure Hydrocephalis. He had his first spinal on November 9th. He is on carbidopa/levodopa 2 tabs tid. and oxybutinin 2 tabs bid. At night he voids on adverage 1000cc s. Now he is incontinent And getting little sleep. Do you think he should stop either med or is there a drug interaction? He is caught in a physician vacuum as he does not see the neurosurgeon until December 12th. He gets his second LP on November 28th.
Hi & Welcome. I appreciate your concern for your beloved husband who seems to have developed urinary incontinence for which his physician has prescribed Oxybutynin.
Oxybutynin is an antispasmodic used to treat symptoms of an overactive bladder, such as incontinence (loss of bladder control) or a frequent need to urinate.
If taken along with Carbidopa/Levodopa combination, it may decrease the beneficial effects of Levodopa so, he may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both the medications.
Hope these answer your query.
