Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My elderly mother has been put on Celexa for depression. It has not helped but have noticed nightmares, crying jags and lack of attention has increased. Recently placed in rehab. I personally prefer the older forms of antidepressants and do NOT like the newer drugs many are using with nursing home residents. She had a mild stroke which affected her right side. I would rather see her on Elavil, Seroquel, or Triavil. She has much more confusion now than ever. Am i wrong?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
There is not an scientific evidence base that Celexa cause nightmares. Even though there are several cases that confirm that nightmares are a side effect of Celexa we can not confirm it. If this symptom continue I suggest you to consult your doctor about an alternative medication.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
