Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 15 yr old son was given Ciprodex by our Physician for an ear infection. He was on the drops for 5 days and started having paralysis like symptoms on the right side of his face, to include his mouth. It is obvious when he tals, smiles and laughs. I have since stopped the medication and made an appt for him to go back to the doctor. Is this a temporary side effect?
Ciprodex contains both ciprofloxacin and dexamethasone which is used to treat ear infections. This medicine also stops the swelling and itching that caused by the infection. Side effects of Ciprodex are allergic reactions like rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips or tongue, burning, redness etc; worsening ear pain, abnormal feeling in the ear, headache, ear pain or discomfort, unusual taste in mouth, changes in sensation and nerve damage, facial paralysis due to arteriosclerosis, seizures, stroke etc. Some investigations like MRI of brain, EEG etc should be done to exclude the causes.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Zubayer Alam, General & Family Physician
