Does Clindamycin Suppositories Interfere With Pregnancy?
Hi! I am five weeks and two days pregnant. My midwife found a vaginal infection and said it was completely normal. I picked up my prescription today and it is clindamycin suppositories. I am starting to wonder how safe these are to use during pregnancy? If anything happens to my baby idk what I will do with myself..please help
There is nothing to worry about the safety of Clindamycin suppositories during pregnancy.
As per US FDA Clindamycin is a pregnancy category "B" drug which means animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.
Moreover given in the form of suppository the amount of the drug that gets absorbed into systemic circulation (maternal blood) is very less to have any adverse effects on the growing unborn baby.
So, it can be taken safely under the supervision of her doctor.
Hope this answers your query.
