Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother was just put on Coreg 3.125 about 2 and 1/2 weeks ago. she is 88 and has been in good mental status since surgery for a broken hip the first of December. Last night she claimed she heard and saw two boys knocking at her front door one time and trying to get in her window two times. I know coreg can cause confusion but can it also cause hallucinations? She didn t seem confused this afternoon when I went by to see her.
As per history has given your mother seems to be suffering from auditory hallucinations. Coreg (Carvedilol) is a non-selective β adrenergic blocker agent with additional α1-blocking activity and is commonly prescribed to treat high blood pressure and heart failure.
Its most common side effects include dizziness, lightheadedness, fatigue, cold and clammy skin, and sleep disturbances. It's unlikely to cause hallucinations. If the hallucinations persist, she needs to be consulted by a psychiatrist to rule out psychosis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regard,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
