Does Cortisone Injection Increases Blood Pressure?
I am 45 yrs old and suffering from Alopecia Areata and undergoing treatment for it. For last 15 days+ I am having Follihair Tablet and Halox Lotion. But I am not finding any changes and infact feel i think it is spreading. I have been suggested to use Cortisone injection for hair growth, but I have high BP for last 20 years. I read that cortisone increases the blood pressure. Can you guide me.
Thanks for the query. Cortisone is a steroid hormone and very important in the management of stress response in our body. It is used in therapy, commonly to suppress overt immune response, where it produces excellent responses. However, being a steroid it is associated with a number of potential side effects like high blood pressure, hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, osteoporosis, anxiety/depression, amenorrhoea, cataracts (opacification of the lenses) and glaucoma (raised intraocular pressure). Local injection may lead to pain and infection. Since this drug is an immunosuppresant, the chances of infection increase with the use. So as per your query, Cortisone can definitely aggravate high blood pressure. You must consult your physician before using it. Hope this helps you.
