Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i have taken cyclobenzaprine and have been getting itching around the back of the neck, hands & lower back. My question is can I take benadryl or a generic allergy pill to counteract or do I need to go to the emergency room? I m am also type 2 diabetic.
Cyclobenzaprine and benadryl interact and should not be used together. Both of these medications affect the flow of impulses in certain nerves in the body (called cholinergic nerve system).
Dramamine is also an older antihistamine and this can be used for the itching.
There are also the newer anthistamines such as zyrtec, claritine or allegra.
Any of the last four antihistamines mentioned can be safely used with cyclobenzaprine with minimal serious effect.
If you are not sure, then you can see your doctor.
I hope this helps
