Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My doc wants me to try Cymbalta for my perineal (sp?) neuropathy which I suffer with for almost 4 years. I now take Oxycodone 30mg every 6 hrs and Gabapentin same time. I am looking at all the side effects and am a little scared. It looks like I can, maybe, ease the pain but suffer anxiety or others that I don t welcome.
Cymbalta is one of the medications that is used for peripheral neuropathy or chronic pain. It is also used in persons with a history of depression or/and anxiety but it provides pain relief for persons who do not have any relief of these conditions as well.
Like all medications, there are possible side effects but it is important to remember that side effects tend to occur in the minority not the majority so it is possible that you may not have any side effects at all. If you do have effects, the medication can be discontinued, you do not have to continue taking it.
If you are having significant symptoms, you should try it and see if it helps you, if it doesn't or causes you problems, then speak to your doctor about discontinuation
I hope this helps
